Public interest (maslahah) is the guiding principle for any society operating under a monotheistic framework. It recognizes that the purpose of any law, economic system, or social structure must be the preservation of:
- Faith (din)
- Life (nafs)
- Intellect (aql)
- Lineage (nasl)
- Wealth (mal)
When these five are protected, the community experiences universal prosperity. Maslahah is the reason we must prioritize sacred economics and community oversight (hisbah)—to ensure that the common good is not sacrificed for individual or corporate gain.
