When the culture celebrates what it should restrain, the restraint becomes the crime.
Degenerate deviance is the pattern of taking behaviour that violates established moral frameworks and reframing it as liberation, identity, or authenticity. It is not the behaviour itself that is the primary concern. It is the systematic removal of the language and frameworks that would allow a person to recognise it as deviance at all. When the vocabulary of moral judgement is declared oppressive, the behaviour it once restrained becomes invisible. Not hidden. Unnamed.
The pattern operates through inversion. Righteousness becomes cringe. Degeneracy becomes brave. Speaking about deen is extremist. Speaking about substance use is authentic. The moral compass has not merely shifted. It has been deliberately reversed. This is the same mechanism that the extremist label uses: not to defend a position, but to make the opposite position socially dangerous to hold.
The cultural consequence is the normalisation of dunya as identity. When deviance is not merely tolerated but celebrated, the population does not just accept moral decline. It performs it. It posts it. It brands it. It builds entire economies around the performance. The self becomes a product, and the product is the rejection of anything that might restrain it.
In Islamic terms, the phenomenon is precisely what moral-evacuation describes: the removal of moral categories from public life, leaving only preference, desire, and power. Without the language of right and wrong, there is no basis for objection. Without the basis for objection, there is no basis for correction. Without correction, the deviance becomes the norm.
